Destruction at archaeological sites following Dakar Rally

Time for a second Blog event. This time I would like you to read the article "Destruction at archaeological sites following Dakar Rally -Car race causes “irremediable damage” in Chile and Argentina" and post a comment on it. Later at the end of the week you are to post a comment to one of your fellow student's blog post. These need to be done by Friday at the end of the school day.

  1. Oh wow, all of those artifacts destroyed from the races! And if the racers couldn't see the sites..then why have a race? I don't understand that! Why can't the National Monuments Council cancel the races for good if their artifacts are being destroyed??

  2. Nobody really cares about the stupid ruins!!! Thats why they are ruins!!! The Dakar Rally is one of the greatest things on the planet!!! And it brings profit to the countries that it goes through!!!

  3. Who cares if the artifacts are being destroyed. They should have moved them before the race. The Dakar Rally is the best thing to hit the world since the invention of the Yo Yo. If you want the artifacts to live on forever then take a picture, pictures last forever!! I think the National Monuments Council should just sit there and enjoy the race.

  4. i couldnt really care less about this. there old and from the past, doesnt effect us now. its the archealogists fault for digging them up to where they could be distroyed.

  5. id ont eally care about artifacts getting destoyed. They dig them up so ya they are destroyed. I think its pretty cool they got destroyed from races

    ReplyDelete
  6. i think that people shouldnt be mad at the races because i think they are actully helping discover them by throwing the dirt off of them and ya mabye some of them might get destroyed but there are always more dig sites.

  7. Ok seriously stop thinking just for yourself. The car races are stupid and pointless. I'm pretty sure that artifacts are more important and later on they will be useful for other information. People can race else where. Doesn't have to cause a huge argument over this, just race somewhere else and everyone will be happy.

  8. Blatant sensationalism (journalistic lies).
    Find the logical inconsistencies:

Damage could have been avoided if recommendations had been followed.
The route is thoroughly surveyed beforehand.
Threats to sites can be minimised.
    The archeological sites were secret.
    The race is illegal.
Half the site was destroyed by the race.
Damaged by 4WD tourist vehicles and off-road driving enthusiasts.
Only 120km of the route was inspected.
Sites had already been seriously damaged before the rally.
Sites are not visible on the ground
It is easier to protect sites that are known about!

  9. I think that when they discovered the artifacts that if they were that important that they should of moved them somewhere special like a museum to keep them safe. So they cant complain if they got ruined.

  10. I am going to agree with Burt. If the race was illegal and shouldnt have been going on in the first place then i think they should be in trouble for racing there and ruining the artifacts. thats not only disrespectful but wrong!

  11. Make sure if you are posting for class that you put your initials or name somewhere in the post. I can't give credit to strange nicknames!
    Thanks,

  12. nate is right who cares, its the ruins, theres no reason for them so y not use them for entertainment.

  13. they should just have a couple tracks for the racers. they should have guards to protect the other land.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think its awesome that they were racing, live your own life and have fun. Artifacts are just artifacts, there are millions of them out there. The people racing were just living life on the edge and having fun with it, i would have done the same thing

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think they should have been more respectful because really, artifacts are more important than just a race. You can always find a different spot for it. There are probably better and less expensive spots than the spot they caused damage to. They should have just listened to that council.

  16. i think you all are crazy. when all the earth's artifacts are gone no one will know about our history. so in 100 years from now when your artifacts are destroyed no one will even know you existed. sucks to be you.

    ReplyDelete
  17. it is wrong to destroy those artifacts for a freaking race. there's more open land somewhere else. go there and race.

    ReplyDelete
  18. i think that it is completely disrespectful to race where artifacts are when you can race somewhere else, dont be selfish.

    ReplyDelete
  19. and i agree with katelyns first post.
what are we going to do when there arent any artifacts left and no one knows about history?

    ReplyDelete
  20. There are many places to race as it is.why go there? because you think it's cool? i'm glad everyone cares so much. everyone takes everything for granted....it's so annoying how people don't care about other things except for themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agreee with Sarah!!! People do only care about themseles. And do need to stop taking things for granted.. So yea

    ReplyDelete
  22. Who cares about the races. They could do it anywhere else, but the artifacts could've probably been blocked off better. So, It was kindof both the people's faults.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree with Maggie though. They are being really selfish. They could put the race somewhere else, not near important artifacts. But, I still think they can mark things and block things off better for the people that do enjoy the race. It's not really fair too just take it away from them cause the archeologists didn't do a good enough job blocking off their sites.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think the archeologists learned a lesson. From now on they will mark their dig sites if they are smart. It should then be illegal to destroy the site if it is properly marked off. That is my brilliant solution. I should be the President of a country someday.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think it is wrong that they did their silly race on archeological sites. On the other hand, it was their own fault for not marking off the dig sites to begin with. So I don't know what to think. Oh and the dig sites aren't so stupid if they hold important information on ancient ruins. I just don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think that the archeologists should have marked where those artifacts were. Because they didn't do that, many things that we could have used to learn about our history are gone and destroyed.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i think that the races should be held somewhere else. obviously, those people who were in the races knew they were there, but they were to selfish to go somewhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i agree with kelsey's comment. who cares about the races, but the artifacts should have been blocked off so poeple other than the racers didn't mess with them.

    ReplyDelete
  29. destroying the artifacts is really dumb. they tell about past events and stuff people probably don't know. i think its really dumb that the people would just drive over them and ruin them... that's really dumb they should use their head a little and be more respectful and less selfish... :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. i agree with Keely and all the others who thought the racers are being selfish because they are and can race somewhere else instead of ruining the artifacts.

    ReplyDelete
  31. i think it is wrong fir the race to go threw. They should not destroy art.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You know. I think it is a darn shame that all that pretty stuff was destroyed. BUT, I also enjoy me a good automobile race. I truely think that the car race is most important. The artists had their time to shine, now its the racers turn. The artists should have planned ahead visited the gypsys and had them predict the future and buried their stuff in a different area. As Walter Cronkite would say," Thats the way the cookie crumbles."

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think that the scientist guys learned a lesson by being dumb and not marking off their dig sites. it is sad but they learned a valuable lesson. So, screw the artifacts

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think they should hold the races somewhere else. They could have changed plans, just like they did when terrorist threats were made. Destroying historic relics is unbeleavable and irresponsible!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree completely with Derek. And that he should definately be president. I'll vote for you buddy

    ReplyDelete
  36. sucks that the things were destroyed and who cares about the races

    ReplyDelete
  37. i think the race should go somewhere else if there is so much stuff that has already gone wrong so far. the race doesn't sound like its that important they could just postpone it for a year and find a ruote that wouldn't brake anything.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think they should just make an alternate route in the years to come. The race would still go on and the country would make money also the achealogists should be ok with it if they move away from the ruins.

    ReplyDelete
  39. i think they should have checked the whole route before they sanctioned the actual race course. they should defintiely change the route to prevent more damage. they can check the next course to make sure its completely okay and everyone can be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I must agree with my brother, Nick, and everyone else who said this--the race is amazing, and they have to do it somewhere. It is a shame that the ruins are being destroyed, but most of em you cant even see!! so it is not all the races fault!! im sorry they could have been rly big finds, but really?? cant drive pretty much anywhere just cuz the ENTIRE freaking country is some big archeological dig?? i dont think so. Dakar shall stay!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. zach W nice job i would agree with you

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think that they should have have the race somewhere else. I agree with Keely and Becca.

    ReplyDelete
  43. this is amy. i think they should just block off the area where they are working and still have the race cause they race is cool.

    ReplyDelete
  44. this is amy. i agree with SCEmperor. sorry i dont know who it is... but i agree with them competely!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Chris Stonekocker i couldn't agree with you moer. Just another day. People break things every day and no one causes a raucous. Those archealogists just need to lighten up. They will find more junk to dig up by the end of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  46. the artifacts could have been moved to somewhere else, but then again they could have been broken anywhere else on accident. the racers were out having fun living there lives, they probably didnt even think about there being artifacts there

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think Burt needs to rethink his logic! The race is a legal sanctioned event!! There is nothing wrong with destroying the "ruins"!! I also agree with Beanerboii4. They were probably cluless of the artifacts being there.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree with Katelyn. They could have done it anywhere else, although it is also the researchers' fault for not blocking it off.

    ReplyDelete
  49. i agree with the people who say its not the racers fault and race on

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with Nate.
Race is a legal santioned event!

    ReplyDelete
  51. w000t w000tttt!!!!! thank you Feli, my brother Nate, and everyone else--the race is legit and therefore should stay! It's not their fault terrorist are after the races and they had to move to South America!! =) I do care about the Dakar and it should stay =P

    ReplyDelete
  52. i think that they should move the race somehwere else because it is ruining the old stuff. if these is such a big problem then they shouldnt have the race.

  53. I think that people should have been more courteous by not driving and racing on such important history, but at the same time, they kind of asked for it by letting everyone do it.

    P.S.- THANK YOU CHRIS DAVIDSON=]

  54. I agree with Josh Frank. His idea would work nicely.

    ReplyDelete
  55. It's funny that they all got destroyed. It cou;d've been prevented. It just shows how much the human race thinks...
To what Elizibeth said, I agree 100%

    ReplyDelete
  56. I dont think people should be treating things like that. That is just disrespectful to do that by ruining things that have been around for a while. People like to look at artifacts, but people cant look at them if they aren't there anymore. Why would you have a race track on some place that means something to people, instead of a place where is doesnt.
