White House Art

This week you are to read the article from ART NEWSPAPER. COM and post a reply to what you think about the President and Mrs. Obama and their selection of artwork for the whitehouse and the offices. Do you think it's okay for them to " borrow" from art museums, or take the artwork on loan? Do you think that its unfortunate to "borrow" the art and put in such private places that very few individuals will ever see it? What benefits does this have for the artists?

  1. I think that it is fine to borrow the art, because he will only be in office a maximum of 8 years. Once the art is returned, it will have a history of being in the White House. I think many collectors would want art that has been in the White House. Also this gives the artists who made these paintings and drawings a good reputation.

  2. Ya it is ok because he will return them when he is not president any more. It help the artist to since they can say their paintings have been in the white house.

  3. i think that it is fine to "borrow" it, but its kind of weird to just borrow it and give it back. i think it should be up to the artists if they can have it in the white house or not. if i was an artist and they wanted to borrow my art work, id be really happy that they wanted my art work in the white house but it also takes away from everyone else in the world seeing it in the museum.

  4. I think it's ok to borrow the paintings for the White House. If I was the artist, I would be honored to have a painting put up in the White House, but yet I would like to have a lot more people looking at my painting that I've done in a gallery. Also, I would like to have my painting back after the president is done with his maximum years of serving. B/c the painting was picked and loved by the president which makes it a famous painting in my opinion.

  5. i would say that its okay. but i dont because it makes it unfair for others not to see it. Why do they need to have them because its probably really expensinve and a waste of money. If they want to decorate im sure they could buy something they like instead of borrowing. But i agree with zach becausse hes right about it giving the paintings a good reputation.

  6. I think it is absolutely ok to borrow the paintings from a museum for the White House. Because the artist would feel honored to have their paintings in the White House. At least I would. Bt at the same time no one else could see the paintings because not that many people actually get to go to the White House. Maybe when Obama is done serving his duty as our president he'll give the paitings back. Who knows...

  7. I think its would be okay to borrow the painting only for a wile, I wonder if they would have security on the watch of the paintings. Would they ever trade the paintings for new. I wonder if they would consider giving money to the museum.

If that was me I would chose a well known painting....

  8. I think it is okay to borrow the paintings for just this time. If I would be a artist , I would be glad that my paintings are in the White House and everyone could see them...

  9. i agree with Filicitas and Olya if i were an artist i would feel honored to have my work be in the White House.

  10. I don't think it's okay to just 'borrow' anyhting because your president. He should have to rent or something like that. It would still help the artists a lot to do that.

  11. Yeah i think it would be pretty cool to have my art in the white house too

  12. NO! He should not be able to take or borrow art from museums. He is taking away the art from the world because no one gets to see it. He is being selfish. He should just conform to every other president's paintings. Atleast ask the artist if it's ok, but the museum shouldn't get to decide for them.

  13. NO! this is him proving he is the antichrist. he's just taking small steps to his dictatorship. First he wanted the olympics in chicago, REJECTED! OWNED!, then he wins a nobel peace prize for nothing, now he wants to have what ever he wants. I say no.

  14. no they shouldnt be able to borrow art. he wants to see art then him and his wife can go to a museum. be like normal people, get out more. My opinion the Obamas are freakin stupid and he should never have been elected.

  15. i dont think he should take art from museums. it is just wrong. just because he is the president doesnt mean he has the right to do this. he should have to buy or rent them if he wants the art.

  16. i think its okay to borrow the art.

i think maybe he should pay a small fee for the 4/8 years he'll have it there,
because if it wasn't in the white house someone else could buy it,
so the artist is potentially losing money.

  17. I think the president should have to rent it or something, because borrowing some like an art picture for 8 yrs is a pretty long time and the art could lose "fans" if they forgot about it.

  18. i dont think they should "borrow it" they have money they should pay for it. But ya they should let people come see the art work...and should not be selfish so they are the only ones that can look at it...

  19. i think it is okay to borrow something and the artists should be happy that there artwork got into the white house. i would be happy if i were an artist.

  20. who cares about the art in the white house because i dont its dumb and i dont think that the should borrow art because then only they can see it and the rest of the world cant

    ReplyDelete
  21. no, i don't think its okay. i think that if they want artwork then they pay the artist. The artist do their work to be shown to the world and you can't see it if it is hidden in the white house. They should act as any american when it comes to "decorations".personally i don't think this has any benifit to the artist because its not being seen. i mean yeah, it would be an honor to have the president WANT your artwork. but they should have to buy that one or ask you to make another one.......

  22. the president isn't any better than the rest of us, and if he really believes he should have extremely famous works of art for his own viewing then he shouldn't be in office. hes not more important than the thousands of people that go to see the art every day

  23. i think that its wrong for the president to "borrow" these pieces of art because most other famous people have to buy the art they have in their homes, and he will only be in the White House for 8 years at the most. Why should he just be able to borrow expensive pieces of art just because he's "running" the country? that doesn't make a lot of sense. if he wants the art, then he should pay for it

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't think that just because he's President, he can take whatever he wants. Even if it's just "borrowing." I agree with everyone that said he should pay for it in some way. But I do think it's good to get new art in there.

  25. I think Obama has good taste. But its kind of selfish. If he likes the art so much to put it in the white house he should desplay it for the world to see not just a select few. He should ask artist to make stuff for him.

  26. I think that it is just fine to burrow art. But when you are President and when you are done with the art you just give it back it is kinda different but i guess since he is president then he can do whatever he wants. Obama does have very good taste in what art he likes.

  27. i do not believe that its ok at all. its selfish towards everyone who doesnt get to see it. itd be different if he had bought it or something, but i think its not fair for the artist to have it confined in the white house

  28. NoI do not think it is ok for the president to borrow priceless art work. The only person on this planet that is ok to borrow art from museums is derek miner. That is only because he is a god among men and we need to be able to facilitate his every wish

  29. I don't think they should eb able too borrow art and just give it back when they're done with it. Although it would be a good way too get more viewers of your art by saying it has been in the White House, You are also taking away your art from other viewers. In the White House few people will see it, But in a museum many people will see and you may become a better known artist.

  30. I think it is ok to put the art in the White House, as long as the owner agrees to it. If the president was forcing them to let him borrow the art, then it would be wrong. It is the museums property and they will do what ever they want to with it.

P.S. I also think Chief Whispering Eyes thoughts may be the right way to go.

  31. I think it is wrong to borrow art from the museum even though Obama is the president....It is artwork and should stay in the musem. Maybe it would be okay if the owners approved it, but I still don't agree.

  32. i don't think obama should be able to take anything they want because he is president. that is soooooo rude of him. everyone should be able to look at the art, not just him . ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  33. i don't think that it is right for obama to take the art work, because then nobody else really gets to see that art. the artist would probably feel good that the president loves his art work and wants it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ok, its nice that he wants good art in the white house but if he is going to keep it there he should have to rent or buy it from the museum it belongs to just like anyone else. It isn't fair for him to take the art from museums without paying for it. He's also taking the opportunity for the public to see the artwork.

  35. I don't think it's right that the Obamas are able to get away with "borrowing" artwork from museums and other people just so they can view it at the White House at their own pleasure. I also don't think it would be right for them to remove any art previously there just cause it doesn't fit their taste

  36. I agree with Zac and several other people on this blog--it't not fair for President Obama to take other people's art for himself, especially if he forces them to let him have it in the White House. Not cool devilman...

    ReplyDelete
  37. i think if the the president obama is able to get away with borrowing art from the museums so they can veiw it when ever they want to is wrong. but if they had the artist make a copy then they could use the copy. but just borrowing out of museums and making it so others cant view it is wrong.

  38. i agree with most of the other people on this blog its not fair for abama take other peoples art project. But if the other people letted him use there art work thenit would be ok. But he didn't he took from other people cause hes the preswident thats just wrong

  39. sounds fine to me, its kinda weird to give it back though.
